International Yoga
Co-ordination Centre
AHIMSA AWARENESS
YOCOCEN (The International Yoga Coordination
Centre) emerged as an International organization, based in India,
as an educational registered trust. It is obvious that the tremendous
interest for Yoga all over the world has spurt in the popular interest
and the zealous pursuit of Yoga requires proper regulation and direction.
It is therefore the need of the hour to coordinate all developmental
efforts in the field of Yoga from the scientific, social, ethical,
religious and philosophical points of view of the situation as a
whole. This is what YOCOCEN is for. We have a few programs which
we are trying to follow.
1) We are concentrating now in developing
a Documentation Centre in Yoga, which regarding the multidisciplinary
aspects of Yoga, is something gigantic. However, we are starting
it in a modest way, collecting the oral teachings of saddhus and
sages, yogis on tape record and then screening out and filing the
important points. We also collect different Yoga programs as for
instance:- Yoga in prisons, hospitals, etc.
2) Courses for Yoga teachers and
introductary courses for the public in general, and on the 11th
to the 13th February, 1983 we held such courses in Delhi, at the
Bharatya Vidya Bhavan:- Hatha Yoga, Pranayama, Relaxation, Meditation
and Anatomy, Phi-siology for Yoga Teacher. Dr. R. H. Singh conducted
Anatomy and Phisiology. Dr. K. S. Joshi, from Sagar University,
conducted Hatha Yoga and Pranayama and Maria Helena de Bastos Freire
gave the Relaxation Techniques. Mrs. Shanta Dhingra and Dr. Barothra
were responsible for the introductory course.
3) Now comes the third program, YOCOCEN's
program which is called "AHIMSA Awareness in Modern Society".
As the name is self-explanatory, we cordially invite you all to
participate.
Going back to the two previous Seminars
held on the subject, we would like to briefly sumup what we concluded
and which we submit to your appraisal and judgment - the program
for the third seminar to be held in India from the 20th to the 23rd
October, 1983.
